Erickson didn’t do Ericksonian Hypnosis
Milton Erickson is well known for indirect suggestions and using metaphors and stories with his clients. But as most well trained hypnotists should know, Erickson knew that one size doesn’t fit all and sometimes direct suggestions are required to create change.
Erickson was successful using metaphors and stories to take his clients into hypnosis, but found that once a client was in a deep state of hypnosis, the unconscious mind understood better literal suggestions for creating change.
I love using metaphors and stories in my hypnosis, the use of the imagination in hypnosis helps to imbed the suggestions with visualizations and relationship words. But like Erickson, I have found not all clients respond with only this type of hypnosis.
When looking for a training program, the program should include all forms of hypnosis. West Maryland offers this type of thorough and well rounded training.
